It is our commitment to laying the foundation for a healthy and active lifestyle from a young age. This program is led by a professional garden educator who is a qualified horticulturalist. We believe by implementing a food garden we can revolutionise the way children think about food and the environment by learning how the food system works, how food is grown, and the value of preparing 4 year old kindergarten wantirna and sharing healthy food together. On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child. Our toddler program encourages curiosity, independence and early social skills as children explore the world with growing confidence. Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Your child will learn about good nutrition to form healthy eating habits.

I have been in the Early Childhood Industry, nurturing and developing young children for over 23 years. In addition to kindergarten at our Children and Family Centres, Knox City Council runs sessional kindergartens at other locations across Knox. Both programs deliver a Government Approved Kindergarten curriculum, led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher and guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).
The Playground to Plate ® program connects to a wider educational approach centred around permaculture and sustainability. We see our learning environments as a third teacher that offers invitations to explore and investigate. They are places that develop, challenge and build children’s capacities with materials and relationships. We are thoughtful, mindful and deliberate about what environments and materials are provided and how these are presented as we believe this directly effects the way a child comes to the learning experience. When we speak of environments we value both the indoors and outdoors equally and have a particular emphasis on engaging learning that respects our natural eco systems, sustainability and environmental awareness.

KU Riddell Road Kindergarten is operated by KU Children’s Services, which contributes 0% to the total available child care capacity in Victoria.

We offer a rotating seasonal menu, providing breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and a late snack freshly made daily. We are committed to sustainability through hands-on initiatives like having recycling bins in every room. We also encourage families to contribute by bringing in jars, lids, cardboard, magazines, and scrap paper, which we repurpose for creative projects and learning activities. Together, we teach children the importance of caring for our environment.
Kindergarten/preschool subsidy is subject to State Government specific requirements including child age eligibility criteria and the delivery of the funded program by an Early Childhood Teacher on the day the subsidy is claimed by the family. Calculations herein are based on the assumption all eligibility criteria is met. We often have visits from local community services in Wantirna to help familiarise the children with their local community, and we go out on adventures in our local area to teach the children about their local environment. Your child must be 3 as at 30 April in the year that you wish for them to commence 3YO Kinder or they must be 4 as at 30 April in the year that you wish for them to commence 4YO Kinder. We recommend joining our waitlist as early as possible to maximise your opportunity of securing your preferred commencement date and days of attendance. Our Kindergarten Programs are approved by the Victorian Government and delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers in accordance with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). Children engage in activities that develop gross and fine motor skills, coordination, rhythm, focus, and mindfulness. KU respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the many lands on which our services are delivered. To be eligible for Free Kinder funding, the Victorian Department of Education and Training requires parents to sign the ‘Fee Relief Declaration and Consent’ form at the time of enrolment.
We offer funded kindergarten programs for both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds, supporting local families with quality early childhood education.
